Bangladesh have rested all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan for the three-match one-day series (26, 28, 31 July) against Sri Lanka this month, but Mashrafe Mortaza will lead the team as the captain. Apart from Shakib, batsman Liton Das has taken a break because of personal reasons.
Left-arm spinner Taizul Islam and top-order batsman Anamul Haq have been picked in the team instead. Bangladesh won three matches in the World Cup to be eighth in the table. Mortaza took only one wicket in eight matches. He took responsibility for poor performance of the team but the Bangladesh Cricket Board retained him as captain.
Bangladesh chief Selector Minhajul Abedin said “We didn’t made big changes for the series as our players did well in the World Cup, as Shakib and Liton will not be available so we had to drop them, Taijul and Anamul will join the team.”
Bangladesh set to play 3 ODI’s against Sri Lanka from 26th July to 31st July. Indian batsman Wasim Jaffar will join the team in the tour as a batting consultant. Many expect Wasim Jaffar to be the next Bangladesh head coach.
