After more than four decades, the eyes of the World Cup Winner are now on the very important Ashes series for them. England’s Test Team Captain Joe Root feels that his team’s Ashes series triumph will put two big trophies in the same year, in order to achieve big achievement in cricket.
Host England defeated New Zealand in the most dramatic finals on the basis of boundaries and won the World Cup title. Now the attention of the world champion is on the Ashes series starting from August against Australia.
The BBC has written on behalf of Root on Monday, “This is what we have thought of doing two to three years ago and we have already reached half way.” Root said, “We are in a better position than this, players have got confidence from what we have achieved and we have talked about taking it forward.”
Root said, “In the semi-final in Edgbaston, when we played against Australia, the players who were there, they enjoyed it and now they want more than that.”
Root said, “Maybe it would be very exciting to feel the same kind of time once more. Ashes is always different from cricket, so it will give a different feeling to the players.” The 28-year-old said, “it has always been special.”
Root talked about the Ashes won in 2005, which is being compared with this time the World Cup victory. In 2005 England had won the Ashes series since 1986-87. Root said, “In 2005 I was 14 years old and it was a matter of inspiration for me. Hopefully we can do it again.”
