Tim Southee is set to lead New Zealand in one week from now’s erratic T20 coordinate against Sri Lanka.
Ordinary captain Kane Williamson is to be refreshed alongside Trent Boult and Colin de Grandhomme.
Southee, who has captained New Zealand twice previously, conceded that driving a side in cricket’s most limited frame can be somewhat of a bet.
“It’s tied in with attempting to remain a stage on top of things and a smidgen of speculating,” he said.
“The way T20 cricket goes it’s (about)trying to take somewhat of a punt on what you believe will occur.”
All-rounder Jimmy Neesham and opener Martin Guptill, who emerged when New Zealand won the first day worldwide on Thursday, are likewise in the T20 squad.
