WI Key Players
The opening pair of Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis along with Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer and Andre Russell are the big guns in this West Indian batting line-up. Lewis, Hope and Russell all scored big in the previous warm-up game against New Zealand. Shai Hope, in particular, was outstanding in his knock of 101. The top-order batsman is fourth in the ICC ODI batting rankings. The Windies will be expecting a strong start from Chris Gayle who has two half-centuries in his three ODI outings at the Trent Bridge. The Windies will be hoping that their key pacer Shannon Gabriel takes the field on Friday, but if he doesn’t, then they will have to bank on the likes of Sheldon Cottrell, Kemar Roach and Jason Holder to do the job for them with the ball. Kemar Roach troubled the New Zealand batsmen last time, returning figures of 5-1-18-1, and he is more likely to finish with the best figures for his side against Pakistan.
PAK Key Players
Pakistan have plenty of talented batsmen in their line-up but the spotlight will mainly be on their top three in Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman. Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman are both amongst the world’s top ten ODI batsmen and the team will want them both to fire against the West Indies. Babar cracked a brilliant ton in the warm-up game against Afghanistan and he also has an ODI century at this ground. Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik are Pakistan’s most reliable batsmen in the middle order. Hasan Ali, Mohammad Amir and Shaheen Afridi will make up the team’s pace attack. Hasan Ali has been their most consistent performer with the ball in white-ball cricket in the recent past and he will be the biggest threat to the West Indian batsmen. Mohammad Amir has struggled to find his rhythm ever since making his comeback to international cricket, but it will be up to him to ensure a good start for his team with the ball.
