Oval Invincibles Women
129/5(20.0ov)

Northern Superchargers Women beat Oval Invincibles Women by 14 runs

That is it then and Northern Superchargers Women are really starting to look like a team that could make the playoffs for the first time but there's still a long way to go. The reigning champions though need to buckle up and string together a team performance to get back on track. The action continues on Saturday, 12 August with a doubleheader in The Hundred Women. First up, it will be London Spirit Women taking on Trent Rockets Women at Lord's and that game will begin at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT). This will be followed by a clash between Welsh Fire Women and Southern Brave Women at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff starting at 7 pm IST (1.30 pm GMT). The build-up for both those games will begin sooner, so, do join us then. Take care and goodbye!
Phoebe Litchfield is the Hero of the Match. She says that the win at home is extra special. She added that the partnership with her skipper was all about running hard and scoring runs while adding that the shots she played were to access different gaps and score some runs. She says that the squad has bonded nicely and will look for more wins.
The Presentation ceremony...
Earlier in the game, Hollie Armitage won the toss and elected to bat first but this decision backfired instantly as Jemimah Rodrigues and Marie Kelly got out very early. However, skipper Hollie Armitage and Phoebe Litchfield stitched together a 94-run stand to completely shift the momentum. They couldn't finish with much of a flourish but managed to get to a good total. Marizanne Kapp did the early damage for Oval Invincibles Women but the middle phase was the phase where they let things slip and it was a similar story during the run chase as well.
Oval Invincibles Women will feel that if they had a bit of a good hit in the middle phase, they could have clinched the game. Lauren Winfield began nicely but her opening partner Suzie Bates didn't get much strike. Once Lauren Winfield got out, Bates simply couldn't kick on and consumed a lot of deliveries but there were wickets tumbling at the other end which held her back as well. The Invincibles looked to be down and out but Cordelia Griffith played a very good cameo and Mady Villiers supported her well but the top order just didn't lay a good enough platform for them to get the win.
A really good victory in the end for Northern Superchargers Women and they go level on points with Southern Brave Women on 6 points, just one point behind Welsh Fire Women at the top of the points table. It wasn't a perfect performance by the home side but they did more than enough with the bat in the first half of the chase. They didn't pick up an early wicket but once Alice Davidson-Richards got Lauren Winfield out, the screws were tightened and the home side got wickets at regular intervals. The catching and ground fielding wasn't at its best but a big score on the board helped them a lot.
