A good start for the Indian Under-19 as they begin their campaign with a win against South Africa under-19. India Under-19 will take on Ireland Under-19 on Wednesday, 19th January at 6:30 pm IST (1 pm GMT). So that is all we have from this match. Until next time, goodbye and take care!
Yash Dhull, the skipper of India Under-19 says he is very pleased with how the bowlers bowled and their plans were executed well. States they were looking to contain and the wickets would come. Adds he wanted to bat till the end and had he played till the end, they would have scored more but they did well to defend the score they had.
George Van Heerden, the skipper of South Africa Under-19 says they had a few chances which they failed to take but overall, they played well. States the time where they lost a few quick wickets is where they lost the game and India bowled well. Mentions the bowlers bowled well, the batters did apply themselves well but it was a pity they lost a lot of wickets quickly. Ends by saying he could have started a lot quicker but he was happy with how he was striking towards the end.
Vicky Ostwal, Man of the Match, says the wicket was good to bat on but it was a touch dry and they had a decent total so they just wanted to stick to the basics, bowl tight lines and not make it easy for the batters to score runs. States it was a 50-50 game at half time and he is pleased they played better and won. States it was a great team effort and all the bowlers contributed.
... The Presentation ...
Earlier in the day, after electing to bowl, South Africa began brilliantly with two quick wickets. India then fought back courtesy their skipper. Once he fell though, the lower order did not contribute a lot and South Africa did well to restrict India to an average score. That though proved to be enough as the Indian bowlers rose to the occasion.
For India, Rajvardhan Hangargekar was superb up front but Kumar and Bawa leaked runs with the new ball. The spinners though put a stranglehold on the runs in the middle overs and Vicky Ostwal also managed to pick wickets at crucial stages. Bawa too made a strong comeback in his second spell at a crunch situation. He got the big wicket of Brevis which changed the game completely. Ostwal along with Bawa were pick as the two took 9 out of the 10 wickets to fall.
A very convincing win for India in the end but at one stage, South Africa were well and truly in the game. Especially when Dewald Brevis was batting. After the loss of an early wicket. Brevis and Kitime steadied the ship. Once the latter fell Brevis along with the skipper continued the good work. They entered the last 20 overs needing almost a run-a-ball with two set batters, however, once Brevis fell, it all fell apart for South Africa. They kept losing wickets and in the end, it became an uphill task and they fell well short.
