First four of the innings
Chris Morris now drops the ball and Rohti Sharma top-edges it but luckily for him, the ball once again evades the outstretched hands of the fielder at point. To add insult to injury, Shikhar Dhawan hits the first four in the innings by pulling Morris for a boundary on the penultimate ball of the over. 6 runs came from that over from Morris.
Dropped

Fifty partnership
Chris Morris and Kagiso Rabada have put together 51 runs off 45 deliveries and are leading South Africa’s charge in the death overs. Bumrah on target again
Jasprit Bumrah comes into the attack and keeps things tight as he bowl a 2-run 45th over. This is the thing that makes Bumrah great – his ability to bowl extraordinarily well in the death overs. He still has 2 overs left in the innings and expect more of the same from him.
Another six for Morris
Chris Morris takes the attack to Yuzvendra Chahal again as he hits him for a huge six over the mid-wicket fence. 8 runs in the over from Chahal as Morris continues to hit boundary on one end. Chahal finishes his full quota of 10 overs and ends with outstanding figures of 4/51.
Morris, Rabada on the attack

Chahal picks his fourth
Yuzvendra Chahal is simply on fire as he picks his fourth wicket of the innings by getting rid of Andile Phehlukwayo. Bhuvi keeps things tidy
Bhuvneshwar Kumar came to bowl in his second spell and he gives away just three singles to keep things tight. He was aided by the fact that the two South African players are only looking to defend and not attack.
Drinks break
32 overs have been bowled in the innings and it is safe to say India are firmly on top of their opponents at the moment. Although Miller and Phehlukwayo have put together a good stand of 35 off 54 balls, they have lost five wickets and have only 18 overs left to take a score to a respectable one.
Maiden over
After giving away 10 runs in his previous over, Jasprit Bumrah hits back strongly and bowls a maiden over to Andile Phehlukwayo. Bumrah’s first spell ensured India got off to a flying start in the match while he is keeping things tight in his second spell as well now.
Bumrah makes things happen again
Jasprit Bumrah almost had a wicket on the first ball off his second spell but a leading edge off Duminy’s bat goes over the point fielder’s head. Then there was a run-out chance but the ball missed the stumps and Duminy survived again. Miller then hits a boundary towards mid-on to make it 10 runs in the over from Bumrah.
Jadhav starts steady
Kedar Jadhav has a knack of picking wickets and that is the reason why skipper Virat Kohli has introduced him in the attack. He keeps things tight and simple and gives away just 5 runs in his first over of the day. Yuzvendra Chahal is currently off the field as he seems to be taking a breather. Jasprit Bumrah returns into the attack now.
Miller key for SA
Miller and Phehlukwayo have put together 18 runs off 24 deliveries and they both hold the key if South Africa are to get to a respectable total in the innings. Mille hasn’t hit a boundary in his 20-ball innings thus far and is only looking to hold the innings from one end.
Proteas go past 100
South Africa have gone past the 100-run mark in the 25th over but they have lost five wickets and it doesn’t look good for them. Five runs came from the over of Kuldeep Yadav as the Proteas are looking for a partnership. David Miller and Andile Phehlukwayo have put together 14 runs of 12 balls thus far.
Kuldeep joins the party
Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav picks his first wicket of the day as he gets rid of JP Duminy. The southpaw was hit on the pads as he tried to play a shot off the back-foot. The umpire adjudged it out after the Indian players appealed hard. The batsmen opted to use the DRS but replays showed the ball was chasing into middle and leg and Duminy had to head back into the hut after scoring jut 3 runs. Proteas have lost half their side now.
Proteas need a partnership again
After putting on such a good partnership, both du Plessis and van der Dussen imploded in one over to leave South Africa reeling once again. David Miller and JP Duminy are the two new batsmen at the crease and they will have to do the rebuilding job now.
Bhuvi keeps things tidy
Bhuvneshwar Kumar came to bowl in his second spell and he gives away just three singles to keep things tight. He was aided by the fact that the two South African players are only looking to defend and not attack.
Chahal double strikes
Yuzvendra Chahal has done the trick for the ‘Men in Blue’ as he gets rid of Dussen for 22 and Faf for 38. The right-hander went for the reverse sweep but missed the line of the delivery and it crashed into his stumps. Proteas are three down now.
Stat attack
50 run partnership between du Plessis/van der Dussen. This is the duo’s 3rd 50 run-stand in ODIs. Back to back 50-run stand by the 3rd wicket SA pair vs India in ODIs. 4th 50-run stand for SA (for any wicket) in this World Cup.
India Looking for a wicket
After the high of first few overs, Indian bowlers are going through a sedate period where the batsmen are scoring singles and doubles at will. Hardik now gives away 6 runs in the over as du Plessis and van der Dussen keep the scoreboard ticking. Yuzvendra Chahal is now being introduced into the attack.
Proteas go past 50
Hardik Pandya produces a top-edge off Faf du Plessis’s bat and with that, South Africa have gone past the 50-run mark in the 15th over. Hardik concedes 8 runs from his over as Proteas are making a move on in the innings. The partnership between the two batsmen is worth 41 off 61 deliveries.
First boundary for Dussen
Kuldeep Yadav strays in line and bowls wide and Rassie van der Dussen hits the ball through the covers for his first boundary of the innings. Kuldeep concedes 5 runs off his second over as the two South African batsmen are starting to look a bit more settled in the middle.
du Plessis loses his bat
Hardik Pandya generates good bounce off the deck and it hit Faf du Plessis on the fingers and he loses his bat as well. Physio is out in the middle and he is tending to the South African skipper. Thankfully, there is now severe damage as he continues. Hardik concedes three runs off his second over.
Partnership building
Kuldeep Yadav concedes three singles off his first over of the innings as Faf du Plessis and Rassie van der Dussen are building a good partnership after the fall of two early wickets. The duo have weathered the early storm and put together 16 runs off 38 ball.
Hardik starts well
Hardik Pandya gives away just three singles off his first over and he continues Indian bowlers’ good start in the innings. He even produced an edge off du Plessis’s bat on the fourth delivery but it landed in the vacant spot at second slip. Kuldeep Yadav replaces Jasprit Bumrah into the attack now.
Proteas still struggling
Jasprit Bumrah is ruling the roost at the moment as he gives away just 2 runs from his fifth over of the innings. In five overs, he has given away just 13 wickets and accounted for the wickets of both Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock. Hardik Pandya is now being introduced into the attack as he replaces Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
No wicket for Bhuvi yet
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been giving able support to Jasprit Bumrah from the other end but he hasn’t been rewarded with a wicket yet. He has been constantly bowling around 88-90 MPH and South Africa batsmen haven’t been given a chance to free their arms. One single run from the fifth over of Bhuvneshwar.
Another tidy over from Bumrah
Jasprt Bumrah keeps things tight for India once again as he gives away just one run off his fourth over. Faf du Plessis was content with just saving his wicket and defending the ball as he knows Bumrah is firmly on top of his game at the moment.
Second boundary for du Plessis
Easily the shot of the day thus far as Faf du Plessis flicks Bhuvneshwar Kumar for a brilliant boundary towards mid wicket. South Africa need a partnership to bail themselves out of early trouble. Indian pacers are firmly on top of South African batsmen at the moment.
Bumrah on fire
Jasprit Bumrah has sent back both the openers now as after getting rid of Hashim Amla in the previous over, he now dismisses Quinton de Kock for 10. The southpaw edged the ball towards third slip and Virat Kohli took a good catch as the ball was travelling very fast. Rassie van der Dussen now joins skipper Faf du Plessis in the middle.
Dropped!
Edges galore for Proteas as the moment as both Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah are making the life difficult for the batsmen. After de Kock got a boundary on the first ball of Bhuvi’s third over, du Plessis edged the ball towards Rohit Sharma at second slip off the second last ball. Luckily for the skipper, it just landed in front of Rohit, who tried to catch it but it went in between his hands. du Plessis survives on 6.
Bumrah strikes
Jasprit Bumrah’s excellent start to the innings has finally paid off as he gets the prized wicket of Hashim Amla (6). Bumrah made the ball move away from the batsman and Amla edged it into the hands of Rohit Sharma, who wa fielding at second slip. Faf du Plessis joins Quinton de Kock in the middle.

First four of the innings
Bhuvi bowls a bit wide and Amla goes down on one knee and hits the ball past the point fielder for the first four of the innings. 6 runs came from that over from Bhuvneshwar as South Africa openers are looking to get a move on now.
Run-out chance
Jasprit Bumrah beat Quinton de Kock’s outside edge on couple of occasions and that made the South Africa openers go for a suicidal double. After flicking the ball towards square leg, the batsmen ran double and when Dhoni took a shy at the stumps, he missed. de Kock dove full length to enter the crease. Indian bowlers are off to a good start as after Bhuvneshwar’s good first over, Bumrah now gives away 2 in the second over.

ind vs sa toss update
South Africa have won the toss and elected to bat first against India in Southampton. Skipper Faf du Plessis says the Proteas are playing two spinners for this clash. He also reveals that Hashim Amla is back in the side.
Pitch report
South Africa legend Shawn Pollock tells the official broadcasters that not much movement is expected out of the pitch. He also says that the surface will aid the batsmen but also warned the ball could do a bit early.
Top player battles
Rabada vs Rohit: . In 2018, Rohit Sharma has faced 54 deliveries from the speedster in the ODIs format. The right-handed batsman has scored just 39 runs at a strike rate of 72.2 and has been dismissed thrice. If not all, Rabada has also dismissed the 32-year-old thrice in the longest format last year. The battle between the two stars of the game would promise an exciting contest on Wednesday.
Kohli vs Tahir: Virat Kohli will fancy his chances against Imran Tahir as he has an excellent record against the leg-spinner. The Indian captain has scored 191 runs off 186 balls and has been dismissed just once by Tahir in ODIs. Kohli, who has struck 12 boundaries and five sixes against Tahir, will surely look to bat positively against the South African. The leg-spinner will have to work out a clear cut plan to counter the Kohli factor.
Team India warming up
The players are out in the middle and they are currently warming-up for their first match of the tournament. Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni are playing keepy-uppis (where you don’t let the football drop on the ground) with Yuzvendra Chahal and KL Rahul. The other players are doing mind running.
India’s poor WC record against SA
Of all the teams that are taking part in the tournament, India’s win/loss record is the worst against South Africa. The two teams have clashed four times in the showpiece event previously, with India coming out victorious in just one. The ‘Men in Blue’ have performed admirably with the bat against their African rivals, however, with the bowl they have struggled immensely. In four matches, the Indian batsmen have scored 971 runs at a healthy strike-rate of almost 90. But the Indian bowlers cannot boast of the same as they have leaked runs at an economy rate of 5.34, which is the highest in comparison to the others. To make matters worse, out of 40 wickets up for grabs, Indian bowlers have scalped only 22 wickets at a meagre average of 40.
