Bangladesh Cricket Board has rested in-form opener Tamim Iqbal for a Test against Afghanistan next month and a three-nation T20 series. Tamim had demanded rest from the board itself.
Chief selector Minhajul Abedin said Tamim has been rested from the three-nation T20 series starting on September 13, in addition to the Test played from September 5. The team from Zimbabwe is also participating in the T20 series.
Abedin said that Tamim had sought rest which the board has accepted. “He will now rest during the Test match and the tri-tournament against Afghanistan,” he told AFP.
The Afghanistan team will play the Test for the first time in Bangladesh. Tamim, who scored the most runs for Bangladesh in all formats, struggled in the recent World Cup, where he scored just 235 runs in eight innings at an average of 29.37.
