Credit to Madurai here. They kept on making comebacks whenever the chips went down. In their batting innings, they were reeling but 49 runs in the last three overs, all thanks to Washington Sundar's blitz, took them to a fighting total. Likewise, Chepauk had a stable start in the Powerplay during the chase, scoring 36 for no loss but Murugan Ashwin's three wickets instilled self-belief in the Madurai camp. In the 19th over, Ajay Krishna claimed three wickets, making it a 4-wicket haul for himself and once Baba Aparajith was dismissed, it was game, set and match for Madurai.
Chepauk will be shell-shocked. They had the game in the bag but let it slip away. A flurry of wickets at the backend disturbed their rhythm and just like the first innings, the momentum slipped out from their corner. At one stage, Chepauk were 101 for 3 but soon got reduced to 127 for 9. Their batters showed zero game presence despite having a set batter in Baba Aparajith at one end. They kept on swinging their blades blindly and Chepauk had to suffer an upset loss - their fourth in a row in this edition.
What a game! What a comeback! Madurai showed great fighting spirit and earned a close win through sheer brilliance. They've now scored consecutive wins after a dismal start to the season and will be aiming to build on this winning momentum.
