After winning the toss, Windies opted to bat first. Skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza bought the first breakthrough by dismissing man in form Sunil Ambris. But his partnership Shai Hope, who is in even a better touch kept his good performance going as he scored a vital 87 from 108 balls.
Mashrafe went onto to pick two more wickets while Shakib Al Hasan was absolutely clinical with the ball. The all-rounder gave away only 27 runs in his 10 overs and picked up one wicket. However, the debutant Abu Jayed had an off day as he failed to pick up any wicket and conceded 56 in 9 overs. Bangladesh restricted Windies to 247 runs in the end.
In reply, Bangladesh started off well once again courtesy of Soumya Sarkar and Tamim Iqbal. Soumya hit second fifty in a row against Windies while Tamim’s 21 helped to cross 50 runs mark in the opening stand.
Shakib’s stay was not very long, but he played a quick innings of 29 from 35 balls while the dependable Mushfiqur Rahim (63) was the highest scorer for Bangladesh and almost took Bangladesh over the line.
In the end, it was Mahmudullah, who remained unbeaten with 30* and saw Bangladesh home by 5 wickets.
