World Cup 2019: The young wicketkeeper-batsman of Afghanistan, Ikram Ali Khil has broken the record of 27 years old Sachin Tendulkar of India. Ikram played a superb innings of 86 runs in 92 balls against the West Indies on Thursday. Sachin scored 84 in the 1992 World Cup at the age of 18. The Afghan team lost this match by 23 runs.
“I am very happy to break the record of a great player like Sachin,” the ICC quoted from Ikram said.
Ikram said that Sachin is not my idol or inspiration, Sri Lanka’s wicket-keeper batsman Kumar Sangakkara is his inspiration.
“Kumar Sangakkara always lives in my heart and mind,” said Ikram. “Whenever I go to bat, he lives in my mind.”
The Afghan team could not win a single match in this World Cup. Although this team has given tough competition to several teams including India.
West Indies defeated Afghanistan by 23 runs in their last World Cup match at Headingley on Thursday. This is the second win in the West Indies World Cup campaign.
They got his first win against Pakistan in their first match. Afghanistan, who played the world cup in the history of reversing teams, could not win a single match in this tournament. They were defeated in all nine matches.
The West Indies had given the target of 312 runs to Afghanistan, but the Afghan team was all out on 288 for the last ball of the 50th over after a lot of confrontation.
The West Indies were in ninth place in nine matches with two wins, six losses and a canceled match, with a total of five points. Afghanistan, having nine losses in nine matches, remained at the bottom 10 in the numerical position.
