Mark Waugh and Shane Warne, the former great player of Australia, were surprised when they got to know that Alex Carey not included in the selection squad for the Ashes series, while Mark Taylor said that he could not believe that Burns and Curtis Patterson were not selected.
Australia selected 17-member squad for the five-match Test series against England. Opening batsman Cameron Bancroft has been included in the team with Steve Smith and David Warner, who was banned last year after being in connection with ball tampering in South Africa.
Despite not playing Test for nearly two years, Matthew Wade has recently been selected due to the good form.
Twenty-one-year-old Waugh said, “Alex Carey is not in the team, it’s a matter of great surprise given the World Cup performance.”
Warne wrote on his Instagram, “Carey is not included in the Australian team, it’s a matter of surprise and disappointment.”
Former Australian captain Taylor said, “I am disappointed that Curtis Patterson could not make the place in the team. You can not do anything, but I am feeling a little sad about him and Burns. Both of them had scored centuries in their last Test matches. The selectors are choosing the team based on recent performance rather than the previous Test matches.”
