Shubman Gill has made history by scoring a double century in the last match of the ongoing unofficial Test series against West Indies A. Gill demolished Gambhir’s 17-year-old record by scoring a double century against West Indies A in the second innings on the third day of the ongoing match at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad.
Gill has now become the youngest player to score a double century in first class cricket for India. Gill has done this feat at the age of just 19 years 334 days.
Before him, this record was in the name of former cricketer and sitting MP Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir played a double century against Zimbabwe in 2002, playing for President XI at the age of 20 years 124 days.
Apart from this, Gill has now become the youngest player to score a double century in first class cricket on foreign land outside India. Also, he has become the youngest Indian player to score a double century on Caribbean soil.
Gill played an unbeaten 204 runs during his historic innings with the help of 19 fours and two sixes in 250 balls at a strike rate of 81.60. Earlier, Gill was dismissed on the first ball of the match in the first innings. But in the second innings, he teamed up with Hanuma Vihari for a tremendous partnership of 315 runs for the fifth wicket.
