Former captain Misbah-ul-Haq has been named the head coach of the Pakistan Cricket Team on Wednesday while Waqar Younis will be the bowling coach of the team. These two have been appointed for three years in all three formats. In addition, Misbah has also been elected as the chairman of selectors to head the head coaches of six first-class cricket associations. According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Misbah was unanimously selected by a five-member PCB panel conducting the recruitment process.
“It is very humbling for me to join a select group of some of the very best to have coached the Pakistan national sides in the past. It is an honor and more than that, a massive responsibility as we live and breathe cricket” said Misbah.
Misbah-ul-Haq, who retired from international cricket in May 2017, said, “I am honored to join a group of great people who have coached Pakistan’s national cricket team. It was an honor The thing is more than that, it’s a big responsibility because we live cricket.”
He said, “I know I have high expectations, but I am fully prepared for the task. If it does not happen then I would not put forward my name for one of the most challenging and prestigious roles in Pakistan cricket.”
The PCB said that Waqar Younis was appointed the bowling coach of the national team only after the recommendation of Misbah-ul-Haq.
Misbah-Waqar’s first series will be against Sri Lanka. Pakistan’s team will play three ODIs and three T20 series matches against Sri Lanka from 27 September to 9 October at home.
Pakistan’s performance in this year’s World Cup was not good. Their first challenge in the Test match will be against Australia. Pakistan’s team will play two matches under the World Test Championship at home to Australia. Misbah and Waqar worked together between May 2014 and April 2016. Misbah was the captain and Waqar coach during that time.
