Earlier in the innings, after deciding to bat first. Faf du Plessis led the attack for his side and posted a solid ton. He was supported well by Niroshan Dickwella. Then, Roston Chase and Roshon Primus smacked some heavy blows and posted a target of 195 runs. Guyana Amazon Warriors could not do much with the ball earlier but did showcase their skills and abilities with the depth on offer during the chase and got over the finish line.
Saint Lucia Kings did give a run for their money! Their bowlers were blown away in the Powerplay. Their spinners though, Roston Chase and Mark Deyal got them back in the game with three quick wickets. With the dew coming in play later on, it forced a lot of mistakes in the field and the dropped chances cost them the game. Alzarri Joseph was the star with the ball. He gave away 9 runs in his first over but did really well to pull things back and ended with the figures of 4-0-20-1.
Guyana Amazon Warriors have chased down a target of 195 runs with 6 wickets in hand. This is a record chase for them in the history of CPL. It was a solid start to the run chase for the hosts, with their openers posting a stand of 81 runs where Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the aggressor. However, they lost wickets in quick succession to put them on the back foot. Then, Shimron Hetmyer got together with Hope and stitched a solid stand of around 50 runs. Once, Shimron Hetmyer fell it looked like Saint Lucia Kings would tighten the screws, but Shai Hope had other ideas. He went berserk in the death overs and smacked 3 sixes on the trot to make the chase easier. In the end, he scored his second fifty on the trot and took his side over the victory line.
What a chase we have just witnessed here! The crowd is on its feet, the celebrations have begun at Providence Stadium. Guyana Amazon Warriors have taken two crucial points here and have kept their playoffs hope alive. Saint Lucia Kings gave a solid fight but once the dew came into play, hardly anything went their way.
