Malaysia Women won the toss and elected to bowl which was a brave move and as expected, the Indian openers dominated early proceedings but Malaysia Women did create a few chances that they were not able to take. Interim skipper, Smriti Mandhana did fall trying to accelerate but then came the telling stand between Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues worth 86 runs and the former was sensational in her knock of 67 runs. Rodrigues too played a fine knock and then Richa Ghosh finished off with a big flourish. For Malaysia Women, Mahirah Izzati Ismail and Ainna Hashim bowled well with the former picking up a wicket as well but unfortunately for them, they only got to bat for a couple of deliveries before the heavens opened up again and they were knocked out of the competition.

UPDATE 9.52 am IST (4.22 am GMT) - The inevitable has happened and the MATCH HAS BEEN ABANDONED! India Women advance to the Semifinals of the Women's Cricket Competition of the Asian Games as they are higher seeded and will now have their eye on sealing a Finals spot.

Malaysia Women's bowling showed signs of inexperience as they delivered a slew of full tosses, offering the Indian batters ample opportunities to unleash their strokes. India's batting got off to a flying start with captain Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma setting the tone. While Mandhana departed after a quickfire 27 off 16 balls, Shafali Verma held the fort and played a spectacular innings, scoring 67 off just 39 deliveries, featuring 4 boundaries and 5 towering sixes. Jemimah Rodrigues also joined the party, notching up 47 runs off 29 balls at number 3, sharing an explosive 87-run partnership with Shafali. Late in the innings, Richa Ghosh added fireworks with a cameo of 21 runs off a mere 7 balls. The top four Indian batters took charge, propelling their team to an imposing total.

India has set a challenging target of 174 runs in 90 balls for Malaysia Women to chase down.
