The players will be auctioned for the 13th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in Kolkata on 19 December. The auction process will be done here for the first time. The players’ trading window will close on November 14. According to ESPN Cricinfo, eight franchisees have been informed of the trading window. A total of Rs 85 crore will be given for auction this year. This is 3 crores more than last year. The number of players who will participate in the auction has not been given yet.
After the auction last year, Delhi Capitals had the highest amount of Rs 8.2 crore left. At the same time, Royal Challengers Bangalore had the least Rs 1.8 crore in their account. This time the franchisees will get an additional Rs 3 crore. Last year, the team of Mumbai Indians and Chennai Superkings reached the final. Then Mumbai won.
All players will have to go through the auction process for IPL-2021. In this case, the auction will be relatively small this time. The last major auction was in January 2018. Teams were then allowed to retain only 5 players.
Delhi has the most money left. In such a situation, it is believed that they will bet on some of the big players. Delhi’s team was more active than other teams in the trading window. The team captained by Shreyas Iyer gave Sherfane Rutherford of the West Indies to Mumbai. He was replaced by spinner Mayank Markande in his team.
Delhi team is also looking to include Ravichandran Ashwin from Punjab. Ashwin was bought by Punjab in 2018 for 7.6 crores. He was made the captain of the team. He took 15 wickets last year. Team mentor Sourav Ganguly also wants to include Ashwin in his team. He said, “If we allow Punjab Ashwin in our team, then we will be very happy.”
