Match ends
Mohammed Shami picks his fourth wicket of the day as he gets rid of Oshane Thomas for 6. With that, India have recorded a convincing 125-run win. Shami ended with four wickets, Chahal scalped two while Bumrah scalped two to star in India’s massive win. Not to forget the contributions of Kohli and Dhoni, who helped them to this commanding score on this track.
Four and four
Kemar Roach and Oshane Thomas are trying to bat for as long as possible but they have been able to score boundaries as well. The duo have somehow managed to score four boundaries in the last four overs and they are frustrating the Indian fans in the stand.
Thomas survives again!
This is simply unbelievable stuff as Oshane Thomas is given a second lifeline in a span of six deliveries. The southpaw hit the ball towards mid wicket but KL Rahul spilled the catch. Virat Kohli is not looking a happy man at the moment.
Thomas survives
Oshane Thomas edged a Yuzvendra Chahal delivery into the hands of Rohit Sharma at first slip. The third umpire ruled it as not out as he reckoned the Rohit didn’t have his fingers underneath the ball. Thomas survives to live another day.
Four, Six and Out!
Shendon Cottrell hits Yuzvendra Chahal for a four and six towards cow corner and long on respectively. But then, the leggie traps Cottrell in front of the wicket and the tailender was adjudged LBW by the umpire. Windies have lost their 9th wicket now.
Shami picks his third
Mohammed Shami picks his third wicket of the day as he gets rid of Shimron Hetmyer for 18. The southpaw hits the ball straight into the hands of KL Rahul at point. Windies lose their eighth wickets and are on the verge of a heavy defeat.
India let go off a wicket
Shimron Hetmyer edges a Yuzvendra Chahal delivery into the hands of Hardik Pandya at leg slip. The fielder wasn’t sure that he had taken a clean catch so he didn’t appeal vociferously. The umpire also turned it down but replays showed that it was indeed a clean catch from Pandya.
Bumrah strikes again
First ball duck for Fabian Allen as a fast delivery from Jasprit Bumrah hits him on the pads and the right-hander has been adjudged LBW. Umpire’s call was retained even after he decided to invoke the DRS. Windies are 7 down in the chase now. No hat-trick for Bumrah as Kemar Roach successfully negates a slow yorker from the India pacer.
Good catch from Dhoni
Jasprit Bumrah picks his first wicket of the day but it would not have been possible without the stunning effort from MS Dhoni. Carlos Brathwaite edged a Bumrah delivery and MS Dhoni jumped full length to his right to take a one-handed catch. Windies are six down now in the chase.
Bumrah returns into the attack
Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah returns into the attack and almost picks up a wicket. He bowls a slow yorker which Carlos Brathwaite fails to read and the ball just landed in front of a diving Kohli near the strip. Then, he bowled a fast yorker which was successfully defended by Brathwaite.
Windies lose half their side
Another one bites the dust as Yuzvendra Chahal gets rid of Jason Holder for 6. The right-hander hits the ball straight into the hands of Kedar Jadhav in the covers. Windies have now lost half their side as Chahal picks his first wicket of the innings.
More spin for Kuldeep
Kuldeep Yadav almost had his second wicket of the day but the spinning delivery hit Jason Holder wide outside the leg stumps. Indian spinners are working well in tandem as Windies batsmen are still searching for boundaries.
Chahal starts steady
Yuzvendra Chahal has finally been introduced into the attack as India look to pile on the pressure further. He conceded 8 runs off his first over but four runs were courtesy of a wicket-keeping error from Dhoni.
Stat attack
By dismissing Nicholas Pooran, Kuldeep Yadav has picked up his 150th International wicket. He has picked 91 wickets in ODIs, 35 in T20Is and 24 in Tests.
Kuldeep strikes
Nicholas Pooran becomes the fourth Windies batsman to head back into the hut as he is dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav for 28. The southpaw went for the slog shot but ended up giving an easy catch to Mohammed Shami at long-off. India are in full control of the Windies chase now.
DRS saves Hetmyer
Shimron Hetmyer was adjudged LBW after a Kuldeep Yadav wrong one hit him on the front foot. But the southpaw went for the DRS straightaway and replays showed that the ball had hit the pads after taking an inside edge. Hetmyer survives.
Pandya strikes!
Hardik Pandya has broken this dangerous partnership between Nicholas Pooran and Sunil Ambris as he gets rid of the latter for 31. The ball straightened after pitching and crashed into the batsman’s pads and the umpire raises his finger. Windies have lost their third wicket now.
India need to break this partnership
Slowly and steadily, Sunil Ambris and Nicholas Pooran are building the platform for Windies. They were rocked by two early blows but the duo have steadied the ship well in the last few overs.
Fifty up for Windies
After the fall of two early wickets, Nicholas Pooran and Sunil Ambris have put together 34 runs and taken Windies score past the 50-run mark. Windies run-rate is at 3.3 and their required rate is 6.2. They will have to make a move on quickly in the innings.
Pandya using bouncers well
Hardik Pandya is relying on short balls to create problems for the batsmen and he has succeeded so far. He already has produced couple of top edges but unfortunately, he has hasn’t been able to scalp a wicket so far.
Good start for Kuldeep
Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav has bowled two overs so far and has concedes just 8 runs without picking a wicket. He is pitching the ball in the right areas and making the batsmen come on the front foot to play the ball.
Edge but safe
Hardik Pandya produces a top edge off Sunil Ambris but the ball landed in front of Kedar Jadhav, who was fielding at square leg. Hardik Pandya is not looking impressed by the effort from Jadhav. Then, couple of balls later, there wa another top edge and this time the ball landed on the right of Jadhav.
Good over from Bumrah
Hardik Pandya starts well as he concedes just 4 singles in the over. India are now introducing spin in the attack as Kuldeep Yadav replaces Mohammed Shami. India have done well to keep the run rate down as Windies batsmen haven’t been able to hit boundaries.
Another good over for India
Shami and Bumrah are breathing fire at the moment as they have bowled 9 overs in tandem now and have conceded just 25 runs and have lost two crucial wickets as well. We will now see the first bowling change as Jasprit Bumrah is replaced by Hardik Pandya into the attack.
Stat attack
Shai Hope departs for 5:
· Third consecutive single digit score vs IND in ODIs.
· 0 at Mumbai (BS) in 2018
· 0 vs Thiruvananthapuram in 2018
· 5, Today.
Shami strikes again
Mohammed Shami picks his second wicket of the day as he gets rid of Shai Hope for 5. There was a big gap in between the pad and bat and the ball sneaked inside and crashed into the stumps. West Indies have lost their second wicket in the chase.
Edge but safe
Jasprit Bumrah produces an edge off Shai Hope’s bat but the ball landed just infront of Virat Kohli at second slip. Indian pacers are piling on the pressure early on in the chase as Windies struggle for boundaries. Two runs from the Bumrah over.
Gayle departs
Shami comes from around the wicket, bangs the ball in on a length, Gayle wants to pull it away, is beaten by the pace and bounce and can only get it to mid on where Kedar Jadhav runs around and takes an easy catch. India get the vital wicket of Chris Gayle.
Tight stuff from India
This has been a great start for India – both Shami and Bumrah have been on the money and they have not allowed Ambris and Gayle to get going. The pressure will build up, but India will still need to pick up wickets against these six-hitters of West Indies.
Top over
Shami was on the money in that first over, Gayle was streaky to get off the mark. The left-hander will be watchful up front. Bumrah will share the new ball from the other end.
Gayle takes strike
Mohammed Shami will have the new ball, and Chris Gayle is taking strike. Sunil Ambris is at the another end, West Indies need a good positive start
Dhoni gets the momentum
2 sixes, 1 four and India have finished with 268/7. Is it a par score, we do not know, but India have the momentum. They needed this powerful finish and Dhoni has done what Dhoni always keeps doing. Took the innings till the final over and then stamped his authority over it.
Dhoni and the final over
Thomas has the ball and the first one has been parked in the stands. India need this final flourish, Dhoni has to stay here
Cottrell strikes
Sharp bouncer aimed at the body, Shami goes for the hook, he gloves it and Shai Hope takes the catch. Cottrell marches forward, salutes the gallery. West Indies have the momentum, India are slipping here. They need a final flourish.
Hardik falls
Another big jolt for India. Cottrell bowls it full and wide, Hardik slices it towards deep cover and finds out the fielder perfectly. This is a huge wicket for West Indies, Dhoni has to take charge now. Hardik was looking extremely good in the last few overs.
There is some intent now
Hardik is looking for his strokes, Dhoni too is trying to up the ante… India need more boundaries, they need a powerful finish here to get back the momentum and to also post a score
How much is enough?
Dhoni has stuttered, Dhoni has meandered, Dhoni is still there. He has to bat all the way and take India to a score which will be par on this surface. Hardik, on the other hand, is looking far more attacking and has found his rhythm. How much will be enough for India?
Hardik looking good
He has started timing the ball right from the outset and has to keep at it while Dhoni struggles to hit his stride at the other end. India have to aim for a score in excess of 280. How will West Indies react at the death
Kohli has been plucked out
Extremely soft dismissal this. That was back of a good length delivery by Holder, Kohli shaped up to pull, the ball did not arrive and he had to check his pull, well, the ball ballooned to short mid-wicket. The captain is shocked, the ground is stunned, India are slipping here.
Lucky break for Dhoni
This is massive break for India and MS Dhoni. He stepped out, tried to nudge Allen away, the ball spins past his outside edge but Shai Hope makes an absolute meal of the stumping. Dhoni escapes, Kohli needs to take charge here.
Kohli, Dhoni hold fort
The skipper and MS Dhoni are out there, they have to build and take this innings deep. India will have to aim for a score above 280 and these two hold the key
Dhoni makes intentions clear
MS Dhoni hits Oshane Thomas for a boundary on the fourth ball that he faces today and he makes his intentions clear in the match that he is not going to just stay put. India need a partnership and the team two most prolific scorers are in the middle to save the day.
Jadhav falls now
Kemar Roach has picked his third wicket of the day as he gets Kedar Jadhav for 7. The right-hander edged the ball into the hands of the keeper but it was initially adjudged not out by the umpire. West Indies opted to use the DRS and replays showed there was thin edge and Jadhav had to head back into the hut. India are four down now.
Fifty for Kohli
Virat Kohli brings up his half-century of 55 deliveries and he has once again held the innings from one end. Kohli will now need to build a good partnership with Kedar Jadhav in order to propel India’s score to a big one.
Roach gets Shankar
OUT! A dream delivery from Roach results in a wicket. Perfect length, perfect line and it just moves away every so slightly, enough to get the outside edge of Shankar’s bat, a regulation catch for Hope behind the stumps. India have lost their wicket.
Kohli fastest to 20,000 runs
India captain Virat Kohli becomes the fastest to 20,000 international runsbeating Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara. He looks set for a big one.
Good over from Cottrell
A very good over from Sheldon Cotrell, five straight dot balls to Shankar after Kohli took a single in the first ball of the over.
Shankar starts well
FOUR! Vijay Shankar gets going with a good stroke. A juicy half-volley from Holder, a rarity from him today, but full marks to Shankar. He caresses it to the left of mid-off to get his firs boundary.
Rahul falls for 48
BOWLED! Peach of a delivery from Jason Holder. He had been the best bowler on display so far and now he has the big wicket to show for it. Pitches on good length, comes back in slightly to find the gap between Rahul’s bat and pad to hit the top of off stump. Disappointment for Rahul, he was so looking so so good for his 48.
Fine stroke from Rahul
He had shown great footwork and timing till now and this time shows his cheekiness, plays a fine paddle to collect another boundary.
Cracker from Rahul
SHOT! Boy Rahul looks in good touch today. Timing, placement, everything right about that shot. There was width on offer, quick to spot the length, rocks back and cuts it for four.
Holder concedes 1st run in 15th ball
FOUR! First runs off Jason Holder’s bowling today and it needed a classy shot from KL Rahul straight back past the bowler. Holder had bowled 2 maidens before this.
FOUR!
Streaky but Rahul will take it! Flighted on off, Rahul looks to hit it towards cover but it goes off the outer half of his bat through point for a boundary.
Kohli means business
FOUR! Slashed away! Landed outside off, Kohli looks to cut but the ball takes the outside edge and flies past slip and beats short third man to collect a boundary. Kohli’s heart must’ve been in his mouth, he got out playing the exact same shot in the last match against Afghanistan.
Pure class from Rahul
Gorgeous! Shot of the day so far and we’ve got some pretty good shots already. Full on off, Rahul gets on his front foot and plays a classical cover drive. The fielder had no chance to stop that ball.
What a shot from Kohli
FOUR! How good was that from Kohli? A short and wide delivery Thomas, Kohli goes onto his backfoot and decides to go over the in-field and succeeds.
Powerplay ends
That’s the end of the Powerplay. Barring that somewhat controversial Rohit Sharma dismissal, India have batted well in the first ten overs. The West Indian bowlers were quick to realize that short is not the way to go on this track. That brought results for them as Rohit was out playing a shot on front foot.
Kohli off the mark in style
FOUR! What a way to get off the mark! There was width yes but Kohli hits it from the middle of his bat and also makes sure it goes in the gap. Kohli means business.
‘Unhappy’ Rohit departs
OUT! West Indies were quick to go for the review. DRS shows a spike but it wasn’t clear whether it was from the bat or pad, both of them were close to each other. There was no confusion in the third umpires’ mind though, he was quick to ask the on-field umpire to reverse his decision. Rohit is not happy but he has to go. A very good delivery from Roach. It came back from an awkward length to cut Rohit in half and there was sound as the ball went past his bat. Roach was certain there was an inside edge.
Class from Rahul
FOUR! Rohit’s aggression rubs on Rahul, not exactly in the same manner but in intent. A beautiful on-drive past the mid-on fielder for a boundary. His first four of the innings.
Rohit makes his intentions clear
SIX! Don’t bowl there says Rohit Sharma to Roach. A short delivery without much pace, Rohit rocks back and pulls it over mid-wicket for a six. You keep bowling short to Rohit, he’ll keep hitting you day in and day out.
Rohit cuts it for 4
SHOT! Cottrell pitches it slightly short, Rohit gets into the position quickly to cut it behind point and away from the third man fielder to collect the first boundary of the Indian innings.
Rohit flirts with danger
A thickish outside edge results in a single. Full and wide, sort of a sucker ball from Sheldon Cottrell and Rohit goes for the expansive drive with minimal footwork and gets an outside edge to third man.
Good over from Roach
Good lines from Kemar Roach, he gives only a single in his first over. Credit to Rahul as well, he was decisive in his footwork and solid in his defence. India 5/0 after 2 overs
Good running
Quick single, Rohit was off from his blocks as soon as the ball made contact with his bat and Rahul was quick to respond, very good cricket from India.
Rahul’s away
KL Rahul starts on the right note. Just a push and it almost beats the cover fielder to the fence. Good running from Rahul and Rohit, 3 runs to India.
All set
The Indian openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul make their way out into the centre. Rohit looks as determined as ever. India need a good start. Sheldon Cottrell will start the proceedings for West Indies
What the captains said at toss
Virat Kolhi, India captain: Looks like a hard surface. We’ve got two wrist spinners and Kedar Jadhav is the third spinner. It’s a used pitch, we see it slowing down. There are a few rough patches at the right spots for our wrist spinners. A lot more application, understanding the situation. When there’s a 50-60 partnership, make it into a big one. I think closing out situations and capitalising on them will be the key.
Jason Holder, West Indies captain: We wanted to bat as well. If there’s anything in the wicket, it’s probably first-up. Hopefully we get early wickets. We are getting closer and closer. It’s about putting in a complete game. Today’s another opportunity

Pitch report
“Same pitch as the one between New Zealand and West Indies. The square boundaries a bit shorter, but the dimensions don’t play such a big role,” says Mike Atherton. Bishop: “Generally, it looks like a good surface. The slower ball, cutters work. I expect some turn out of the footmarks. Not a cloud out in the sky, I will presume whoever wins the toss will bat first”
Shami marks his run-up
The guessing game begins. Mohammed Shami has just marked-up is run-up, that means he is definitely playing, looks like India are going in with an unchanged side.
News from the centre
Right there is some big news coming in from Old Trafford. It looks like Bhuvneshwar Kumar is fit and is in the 12 for today’s game, so is Shami but he hasn’t warmed up yet. Is that an indication?

Weather update
India were forced to train indoors on Tuesday because of wet outfield ahead of their match against West Indies. The weather however cleared out on Wednesday, allowing both India and West Indies to have a full-fledged net session. Thankfully, there are no chances of rain on Thursday as the weather is likely to remain sunny throughout the day providing perfect conditions for the likes of Virat Kohli and Chirs Gayle to flex their muscles.
Shami or Bhuvi
India perhaps will need a coin toss to come to a conclusion. Shami became only the second Indian to claim a World Cup hat-trick replacing Bhuvi in the last game against Afghanistan but with the latter fit again, Kohli and the Indian team management a tough call to make. They might go with Shami, not because of his performance in the last match but also because it would be foolish to hasten Bhuvi into this game ahead of the knockouts.
What’s the incentive?
The India vs West Indies encounter doesn’t bear the same significance as the other matches in the last few days have. West Indies are all but out of the semi-final’s race and India are still unbeaten in the tournament. Kohli’s men will look to knock on the semi-final’s door by winning today.
India’s tough phase begins
Hell and welcome to the live coverage of India vs West Indies World Cup match at Old Trafford, Manchester. We are calling it India’s tough phase not because of the opponents they are slated to face in the coming (which are great in their own rights) but because Team India will have to play 4 matches in a span of days before the semi-finals
