All-rounder Hanuma Vihari, who played an excellent innings of 93 runs in the second innings of the first Test played against the West Indies, has said that he is focusing on improving his bowling. India beat the Windies by 318 runs in the first Test.
After the match, Vihari said, “It is important that my off spin improves. It will be good not only for me but also for the team as I fit into the team with this combination. I am constantly trying to improve I am hoping that I get more overs to throw and that I can use the team in the future.
Vihari shared a 135-run partnership with Rahane, who scored 102 runs. On the basis of this partnership, India challenged 419 runs in front of the Windies. Vihari also credited Rahane for his innings. He said, “Rahane helped me because of the way the bowlers were bowling, because he was batting for a long time. He was telling me how the wicket was playing.”
The right-handed batsman said, “I came here first with the India-A team, so I knew about the situation here and it helped me. I knew that the wicket would move. I was lucky to have some run.”
Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was also instrumental in India’s victory, taking five wickets for seven runs in the second innings. Vihari said that Bumrah was disappointed with his performance in the first innings. He said, “Bumrah was very disappointed with the performance in the first innings. He felt that he did not bowl according to his standard. He bowled well in the second innings. He is the champion bowler. We have not done the Test for the last six months.” So he could not achieve the rhythm in the first innings.
India will meet West Indies for the 2nd test starting from August 30 to 4th September, which will see the end of the series between India and West Indies.
