The Indian Premier League team Kolkata Knight Riders is not having a good time, this year the team could not qualify for the playoffs while in July the team’s head coach Jacques Kallis and assistant coach Simon Katich stepped down. Now before IPL 2020, two major players are set to separate from the team.
As reported by The Indian Express, Lockie Ferguson and Carlos Brathwaite want to break out of the SRK franchise before the next season. Ferguson had played only five matches, and proved to be extremely expensive. He gave away runs according to the economy of 10.76. His base price was Rs 1 crore and he was bought by KKR for Rs 1.6 crore.
Brathwaite was acquired by KKR for a hefty sum of Rs 5 crore, but was fielded in only two matches. His performance was also not very special and he scored 11 runs and could not take any wickets. Brathwaite, who was kept as a backup to Caribbean star Andre Russell who has repeatedly battled injuries.
Now if Brathwaite breaks away from the team, then KKR will have to find a suitable player. Brathwaite and Fergusson leaving the team will also mean that Kolkata Knight Riders will now need an all-rounder and a great bowler.
Shahrukh Khan’s KKR will now be looking to acquire the Australian pacer Mitchell Starc as a replacement of Ferguson while nothing can be said about Brathwaite’s replacement. Team KKR will also be searching for a captain in the upcoming player auction as Dinesh Karthik failed to prove himself.
