India will look to bring their A game to the fore against Bangladesh as they did against their arch-rivals Pakistan. For India, the worry will be their team combination as Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of the tournament owing to the back problem he picked up against Pakistan, while the management might be tempted to rest Bhuvneshwar Kumar after back-to-back games against Hong Kong and Pakistan.
Left-arm paceman Khaleel Ahmed may come in place of Bhuvneshwar but it is still unclear as to who would be Pandya’s replacement. Deepak Chahar is flying in as the replacement player whereas Manish Pandey can be roped in to strengthen the batting line-up. Kedar Jadhav is expected to take care of Pandya’s quota of overs as he proved to be more than handy against Pakistan by picking up three crucial wickets.
If we talk about the openers, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have been amongst the runs in the first two matches while Ambati Rayudu and Dinesh Karthik looked solid against Pakistan. On the other hand, MS Dhoni hasn’t been at his best and it will be interesting to see how he fares as the tournament progresses.
India’s rivalry with Bangladesh has been a bitter one post the controversial 2015 World Cup quarterfinal at Melbourne. However, it cannot be denied that Bangladesh are now a quality 50-over side, a format they have mastered after a sensational run at home besides reaching the Asia Cup final in 2012.
Under the captaincy of Mashrafe Mortaza and veterans like Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmydullah Riyadh, the team has the potential to go all the way. With two quality pacers in Mustafizur Rahaman and Rubel Hossain backed up by the experience of Mortaza and Shakib on a slow deck, India could find it hard to time the ball.
Players to watch out for:
Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh)
Shakib has long been the pinnacle of the Bangladesh side, and his performances have been instrumental in their rise as an international cricketing force. There was much talk regarding whether he would play, but having been declared fit to go, fans will be looking for an action packed display from him.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar (India)
Kumar is someone from India who will be on the watch list of the opposition. In his previous outing against Pakistan, his wickets of Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman set the right platform for the other bowlers to chip in. He bowled wicket-to-wicket against Pakistan and against Bangladesh, he will be doing almost the same things as there isn’t much swing on offer in these conditions.
