Now the fate of those who play domestic cricket is also going to change. In fact, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly indicated that soon the contract system for first-class cricketers will be implemented in India so that they can be given financial security. Ganguly said in the first interview to PTI as BCCI president that the financial condition of domestic cricketers is his priority and he wants to increase match fees.
Ganguly said that like the top international cricketers in the country, there should be a well-structured payment structure for domestic cricketers. He said, ‘We will bring agreement arrangements for first class cricketers. We will ask the new Finance (Sub) Committee to prepare the arrangement.
He said, ‘It has been only four to five days and there was a Diwali holiday in between. I will assess everything in two weeks and decide on the future. A lot of work is going on.
Currently, a domestic cricketer gets 25 to 30 lakhs annually. For every first-class match, we get 35000 per day. 13 per cent of BCCI’s revenue from broadcasting rights is distributed among domestic cricketers.
